· Clearly distinguish between the necessity of forgiveness and the possibility of reconciliation

The Gift of Anger

Carroll Saussy’s book, The Gift of Anger, is the basis of this study. Several other authors’ writings are also presented. This is very appropriate for an adult education setting. This presentation can be in a 3 or 4 week format.

A Pastoral Counselor Looks at Shame

This study loosely followed the outline of Robert Jewett’s book, St. Paul Returns to the Movies. It incorporates the use of several recent film clips to explore the topic of shame. This presentation can be in a 3 to 6-week format.

The Christian Virtues of Faith, Hope, and Love

This is a seven-week (or longer) series looking at the three Christian virtues highlighted by St. Paul in I Cor. 13. We use such writers as Paul Tillich, Karl Barth, Frederick Buechner, Jurgen Moltmann, Bernard of Clairvaux, and even Mike Yaconelli.

Parenting of Adolescents

This is a six-week presentation for parents or even grandparents of older children and adolescents.  Topics covered include: Developing Responsibility, Encouragement of your Child, and Effective Discipline.  Several current parenting texts fill the bibliography.

The Gift (?) Of Fear

We begin this study with a quick review of Gavin DeBecker’s 1997 book, The Gift of Fear, and then go quickly to scripture to examine the questionable title. Of course, the psychological concept of anxiety is also included. This presentation can be covered in 3 or 4 sessions.
